Speak insurance without the headache
A plain-spoken glossary because veritas includes speaking plainly. Premium: what you pay, usually monthly, to keep coverage active. Deductible: what you pay out of pocket before insurance starts helping. Copay: a flat fee at the time of care, like $30 a visit. Coinsurance: your share of a cost after the deductible. Out-of-pocket maximum: the most you pay in a year before insurance covers 100%. Network: doctors and facilities your plan discounts. Formulary: your plan's list of covered drugs. Subsidy (APTC): help lowering your Marketplace premium. HMO: in-network care with a primary care referral. PPO: freedom to go out-of-network at a higher cost. EPO: in-network only, no referral needed. Special Enrollment Period: a window after a life event. Beneficiary: who receives a life insurance payout. Rider: an add-on that customizes a policy. Medigap: a supplement covering Medicare's out-of-pocket gaps.
